Our mission is to give back more to the strong survivors of cancer and to those who help care for them by donating a percentage of every product purchased from BackMore to support this much needed service.
Our Story
On Friday April 28, 2023, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The shock of the news from my urologist felt like a slow-motion punch in the stomach that took all the air out of me. Over the next 5 months of active surveillance, my levels kept elevating and surgery became necessary.
On Monday October 16, 2023, I underwent a radical prostatectomy (complete removal of the prostate). While still laid up unable to care for myself, my wife Sandra who became my “shero” also became my care-giver in EVERY way.
Sandra had undergone regular check-ups and a recent mammogram. Just 10 days later on Thursday October 26, 2023, my “shero” was diagnosed with breast cancer and only 4 days later on Monday October 31, 2023, she was in the hospital having surgery to remove the cancer. Because of my condition, I was not able to be there with her like she was with me during my surgery.
We were both laid up in bad shape having to depend on our children to help care for us. Once I was strong enough to move around more, I became to her what she was for me. We cared for each other and depended upon each other along with our children, family and friends who did everything from housekeeping to meal preparations to chauffeuring us to appointments. At that time, we didn’t know why God chose us to bear the load of a double cancer diagnosis only days apart but as time went by, his purpose became clear. It was only after we experienced the difficulties of caring for ourselves, getting to medical appointments, buying medical supplies and basic daily survival that we understood our purpose.
Our journey was laid out for us to endure in order to do something that would bring more light to the forgotten needs of cancer survivors and the people who care for them. We knew firsthand the need for resources to help with things like bill payments, food, transportation and basic living expenses. That’s why BackMore was started! Our mission is to give back more to the strong survivors of cancer and to those who help care for them by donating a percentage of every product purchased from BackMore to support this much needed service.
